Peculiar Path Taken: CSR World
Excluding all the succeeding things I've experienced with CSR world as a volunteer, the challenge it had in store for me seems to be the one that hits me the most. Besides quite a narrow but rapidly growing selection of the topics that can be discussed or shared in my assigned topic, which is How-To on social media, the excitement and positive frustration that uproars my productivity comes from the question I ask myself: How can this bring about an extremely impactful relevance even outside the social media like its effects, and its potential contribution whether it may be bad or good, to one's attitude and to define their naivety. Though defining one's naivety is a tad bit rude even though it's a concern on awareness and its most effective recognition is by the person who is ignorant or negligent of it. Though it all shouldn't fall upon the common mistakes, nor the remedies possible. These things only come in at 2nd next to the highly acclaimed awareness. For us to complete a task or to prevent bad choices, we must have awareness in the situations we're in or the ones we're about to enter. This will segregate our commitment, whether we can promise it or not upon defining whether we have the capabilities required in fulfilling even the easiest of the task assigned. This became more of a regular thing as it went on and had developed to become more meticulous. It should become impulsive. It should be a solid responsibility. It had opened up broader ideas, considering all kinds of people and their affiliations that guides their decision-making.
So basically, the given examples were a little beyond a pinch of what I've had with CSR stories. The rest remains uncertain and it would be best to have it stated or expressed without the turmoil. But to sum it up, besides the fog being wiped from the glasses, the experience with Social Corporate Responsibility sees the decay of society's flaws. It may not be as clear as the fireworks in the new year celebration, nor is it as fast as the crackers it has, but it its effects will definitely last longer than a night, gradually becoming higher and more magnificent than a firework.

I have always had a personal philosophy that great leadership comes from being a humble servant. A true leader puts the needs of others as their main priority and their own self interests at bay. Up to this very day, I have testified and witnessed this statement throughout my college life. Being a volunteer for BCYF Foundation, CSR World has helped fully understand this philosophy.
As a contributor to CSR Bulletin, writing informative articles has expanded my knowledge towards corporate social responsibility and citizen social responsibility. Researching on various events, companies and individuals who have practiced CSR has helped me write articles that inform others on CSR. As a result, I feel like I have helped others be aware of CSR and its importance in society.
As a volunteer, I have also had the privilege to participate in various events by BCYF such as the Yapak Mo, Yakap Ko Concert and the CSR Story Caravan. These events have helped me value the virtues of teamwork, cooperativeness, and responsibility. Being a volunteer has also granted me the opportunity to meet students from different schools. This was a rewarding experience due to the sharing of learning experiences as well as the exposure to various personalities.
Volunteering for BCYF/CSR World has also taught me that volunteerism goes a long way for the community. Helping others without expecting anything in return has been one of the best feelings in the world. BCYF/CSR World has helped me see that even as students, we can play a huge role in helping our fellow country men and women.
Overall, the BCYF/CSR World volunteer experience has been amazing. It has helped in molding me to a better student leader as well as a better person. The experience has been truly rewarding and will continue the journey with BCYF/CSR World.

Assumptionistas, from being “sosyal” moving towards “social” concern
Last October 9, 2013, the Benita and Catalino Yap Foundation’s CSR Story Caravan was held at the Therese Emmanuel Building of Assumption College. The resource speakers were Ms. Joanna Armenta,Mr. Francis Gasgonia, and Mr. Anton Yap. This caravan is different from the first four caravans that were held in other colleges and universities because this one was tied up together with the NSTP Culminating activity in Assumption College. Aside from the CSR Story Caravan, the NSTP department of Assumption had invited a speaker from the Philippine Red Cross to also have an inspirational talk. They had invited also the people that they catered from the community in Leveriza. Mr. Francis Gasgonia shared in his talk the 10 reasons why to volunteer followed by the open forum wherein a reactor whose name is Ms.Winona Buendia, a 3rd year International Business student shared to him her bad experience while trying to help out someone. The reactor had played a devil’s advocate to make all people see all sides, both positive and negative of helping out other people.
When it was Mr. Anton Yap’s turn to talk, the whole hall was greatly impressed by his dedication to the genuine meaning of CSR which is Citizenship, Sustainability, and Social Responsibility. Right after Mr. Anton Yap, Ms. Joanna Armenta gave a short introduction about the volunteer opportunities in Benita and Catalino Yap Foundation. She had given 3 free benefit concert tickets for those who had shared their experiences in their NSTP class for that semester. After the talk, evaluation forms were answered by the students regarding the quality of the venue, time, speakers and facilitators. Assumption College would like to thank Benita and Catalino Yap Foundation for dedicating their time, mission and efforts to make the NSTP Culminating event a successful one.
With the limited time, the speakers were able to inspire students on how to answer to the wake up call for this new generation. In the advent of digital tools and innovations, Benita and Catalino Yap Foundation provides a venue for the students to explore technology as a vital tool to help many people to contribute in building civic social awareness and nation’s progress.

My
“Yapak Mo, Yakap Ko Benefit Concert” experience
When
Ate Jo went to our school in Mapua Institute of Technology to talk about what
is CSR and stuff, I did not hesitate to join or volunteer. Right in that
moment, it got my attention. I want to join not just to say that I’m in an org
or to take advantage of the privileges, but knowing that I can help a lot of
children and people even in the simplest way, it will be such an honor. I
always say that someday, I will go out and help other people not because I have
to, but I want to. But unfortunately, I don’t have any chances on doing that. But,
when I met At Jo, it’s like a calling. I just said to myself, “Gosh! This is
the chance to turn my words into action.” That’s why right after the talk, I
didn’t hesitate on contacting Ate Jo.
So when we had our first meeting, I was
so surprised and super happy when I heard that their next project is the “Yapak
Mo, Yakap Ko Benefit Concert”. Well that’s my first time to participate at
making a concert. I do attend, but I don’t create. But I was so amazed and
proud to Ate Jo because she handled the concert so perfectly-well. So there you
go, the first task given to me was to look for sponsors. Gosh! Sadly, I was
failed to do that because it was really hard to look for sponsors. Some of them
don’t believe me, and some doesn’t like or have anything to sponsor. Or, it’s
also a factor that it’s my first time to do such things. But anyhow, days before the concert, tasks were given to us
and we were assigned to be responsible for the bands. (Ang saya diba?) So after
months of preparation, the day of the concert has come! Everyone was so excited
at the same time nervous especially when we have to start the concert even
though the bands aren’t complete yet. We had encountered
some problems but that’s okay because with great teamwork and unity, we
overcome all of it and we had executed a one- night-to-remember-concert. So I
can say that my experience in the Yapak Mo concert is something that I won’t
forget. I had experienced things for the first time and knowing that everything
we have done is for the kids. Seeing those precious smiles, all our hard work
has been paid off and our effort was really for them. I hope CSR will help more
kids and people, and I really hope that I will be one of those who will put
smiles on other’s faces.

My experience as a CSR World
Volunteer during Yapak Mo concert last November 22, 2013 was very meaningful
because it was my first time to witness a concert for a cause. At first I
thought it will just be like an ordinary concert but I was wrong because more
than the entertainment there are unfortunate kids who will benefit from it. I
was really blessed to be part of this event not just because it is part of my
job as an officer in our school organization but to just know that you are
helping people who are in need. It is
heartwarming to see how happy the beneficiaries are.
This inspired me to reach
out for more people or even private sectors to donate or even create
foundations that will help public schools to provide their students with high
quality education. Indeed it was a really great opportunity to be a blessing to
others. Normally I wouldn’t spend my time and energy for these kinds of stuff
but when I became a volunteer it all changed. Helping doesn’t insist to wait
for something in return but rather it seeks the pure joy that helping gives you.
Before, I would only help people because I know that someday when I’ll be in
great need they will help me too but now I have the heart of giving without
expecting in return.

Responsibilities of our group included ushering, managing presentations of speakers, setting up logistics, documentation, and assistance in creation of paraphernalia. However, the credit really goes to CSR World’s Program Officer and a great friend, Joanna “Jojo” Armenta. Overall, the more than six hours we spent to help Jojo pull off this event are hours well spent; we were able to discover other people’s perceptions and stance on CSR.

I
have plans of just having my ojt at Lipa for convenience so I could also manage
to go to our institution to do other tasks related in academics or
extra-curricular activities. Also, I had plans to have my internship at a
foundation where I am a graduate of their leadership program but no slot was
available already until it dawned on me why I have not thought of the
opportunity to have my internship in Benita and Catalino Yap Foundation because
it is not the last option but I know the foundation could teach me way beyond
my expectation.
So there, I have done the process of applying, then had the interview and briefing/orientation with MS. Jojo Armenta, Program Officer for CSR World. In our entire orientation, I was moved and inspired of its mission and vision, projects, goals and activities. My eyes lit with excitement because there are lots of activities that will happen as said by Ms. Armenta. I am now the Project coordinator for CSR stories and the Executive Assistant of the Program Officer for CSR World.
When
it is all about LIFE, I have little by little experienced on how did it feel
like to travel here and there using MRT and LRT with jeepney and taxi and
bicycle once in a while. Being CAREFUL and ALERT is a must and those words are
what the guards tell me everytime I ask for directions. It was one of the most
challenging part time because I am really scared of getting lost and have actual
encounters to thieves and modus. But I believe I have improved for I have
encountered a thief then, it is all right already I am totally fine now and
will develop a keen sense of being careful ALL the time, most especially in
trusting people around me.
The experience of being at Ateneo red brick wood together with the Supervisor of CSR Bookshelf Mr Allister Roy Chua and Ms.Armenta was so fun! I have entertained most of the queries and concerns of different students who participated on the fair. We got a count of more or less 70 who inquired and signed up for BCYF. They got a lot of freebies like CSR fan, car sticker, brochures, flyer all about BCYF.
There should be a caravan then at De La Salle Lipa
but it did not pursue because of some circumstances and it made me learn to
prioritize and deal with mishaps and be more of an ABCD planner with
Ms.Armenta.
Lastly we had the BCYF Youth Leaders Network General Assemblyat Bo’s coffee at Glorietta 5. There were students from Letran
University, Mapua Makati, and
others are dedicated volunteers. We have
played get to know games by answering the cards that asks anything under the
sun. Ms.Zar, who is in charge of media and relations had an inspiring talk
about Bo’s coffee’s nationalism and sincere advocacy of being a true Filipino
by showcasing the Philippine’s best coffee, arts and design. The place is
adorned by native notes of warm colors that gives a heart to have a great
coffee experience, and great for meeting as well. Ms. Noreen Bautista also
shared her experience and gave a talk about her experience at Switzerland at
World Economic Forum.
The night was filled of positivity, energy and interaction that will set more goals to BCYF to be a better foundation, darting CSR 3.0.
Generally, my life as an intern is everything, in a
span of about 2 months I have learned to my better self. I am always and will
always be grateful to my ever supportive, patient, dedicated and benevolent
mentor and Ate, Ms.Jojo Armenta, to Mr.Allister Roy Chua who has been a
cheerful, generous, supportive, and thoughtful brother. I am also thankful to
meet Ms.AveleneCastillo, even though we do not meet often there are threads of
similarities that I find to her, like my sister who has been also supportive
and kind. And of course to my Ate Noreen Bautista who is also my idol because
of her great advocacy and love for social enterprise. And to
Ate Maicah whom I share same energy, vision and love for the goals we all
aspire I thank them for sharing the moments in every activity we do and
priceless empowering words we share. To Mr. Antonio Yap who is like a father
and mentor to us all, who give fountains of inspirational sermons, lively talks
and awesome jokes. Thank you for being the prime model , the humble you who
never ever forget to Thank and acknowledge God for everything and anything.
There are no goodbyes but only see you laters, I will see you again soon. I do not promise to be employed at BCYF for I also have other plans to swim on other seas and eventually oceans, but I will forever be a volunteer to my sanctuary and love. See you later BCYF and I will always treasure every priceless lessons I have learned. Thank you very much for being selfless, for being ever patient, and for trusting me. In my short journey with you, indeed I have experienced life and how should I really live it, kakabitin! Because I know I have a loooot of things to IMPROVE and of course to LEARN. I am looking forward to be my better best with you soon. Let’s grow all together. Haha! JAll the best to our endeavors and Godspeed everyone! I love you all. J<3 TCCIC… Mwah MwahChupChup.. I
sat foot to the first activity together with Ms. Armenta to air and share all
about BCYF at Voice of the Youth radio (media partner) at Radyo Inquirer. It
was a humbling experience having linked with and friends with the guests,
organizations I am affiliated to and leadership competition I have blessed to
gain victory in. The radio guesting was awesome and that formed chained of
lasting friendship.
My first super
hands on tasks are to make and send letters to those whom I will interview for
the CSR Testimonials via Youtube Channel and also make and send letters via
facebook/email to those who will share their CSR stories and will be posted t
CSR Stories blog at www.csrstories.blogspot.com.
These truly exercised my social and convincing skills to let them know that
their advocacy/leadership stories are worth sharing to inspire the youth and
for them to make a difference. Moreover, after the interviwees response, I had
the chance to interview them mostly at Greenfield district, Edsa Shang, and
others areto their respective chosen hub like in Intramuros, AFAD headquarters
etc.
The preparation for the social media workshop made me equipped with holistic
skills like writing, social skills, managing skills etc. I have tried to
co-work on the certificates and IDs with a good friend to design and layout it.
In addition, I have written a newsletter for the school publication of St.
Scholastica.I had the opportunity to host the event at I Academy, and have
learned a lot from it and also handled the documentation. Prior visits in the school
were also made to be sure that the event will be a success and concerns will be
addressed at once.

Second to the last activity was the talk of Ms. Noreen Bautista, head of ISED at 47th East.
Ms.Armenta, Mr. Chua, Ms.Avelene Castillo (executive assistant of BCYF) and I
was there to support and also share/advocate BCYF. I have known various
inspiring social entrepreneurs that stirred my soul to fire up the side of me
who would like to be a genuine advocate of social enterprise and be an official
social entrepreneur in the future.
The night was filled of positivity, energy and interaction that will set more goals to BCYF to be a better foundation, darting CSR 3.0.
